Did you know that in 2022 Costco donated…

over $400 million to charities around the world?  Their donations focus on the following areas:

  • Hunger
  • Health and human services
  • Education
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Disaster relief

Over $43 million of that went to Children’s Miracle Network alone.   $36 million of this came from member and employee donations, while another $7.6 million came from Costco corporate.

Ever wondered where all the extra, edible food from Costco went when they were no longer “perfect” for resale to customers?

Costco donates edible, non-perfect food items to local food banks and other similar charitable organizations.  Similarly, in the food court, all prepared but unsold and still edible items (think pre-made pizzas, hot dogs, etc) are frozen and then donated.

In 2018, Costco donated 37 million meals to Feeding America.

In 2020, Costco & its vendors donated 54,000 pallets of returned goods for distribution to needy communities in 32 different countries.

These fun facts are inspired by the new book “The Joy of Costco – A Treasure Hunt from A to Z” by David & Susan Schwartz.  This is such an awesome book and obviously a lot of time, care, and research went into making it.

Pick a few up on Amazon (or you may also find it at your local Costco) and give them as Holiday gifts to the Costco lovers in your life.
