Notice Details

Summary

Costco has identified that Staked Grape Vine plants purchased between April 21, 2026 and May 21, 2026 may be infested with the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter (GWSS), a quarantine pest identified by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. This insect can spread plant diseases, including Pierce’s disease, which can harm grapevines and pose a risk to local agriculture. This notice concerns a plant pest and agricultural quality issue, not a food or product safety hazard to consumers.

If you purchased this item during the affected timeframe, please do not plant the grapevine if you have not already done so. Keep the plant isolated and contained so that it can be examined by a county agricultural inspector.

What To Do

Do not return the plant to Costco. Instead, present the original notice letter to your local Costco warehouse to receive a full refund. For further guidance, please contact your local County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office, which can be located via the CDFA County Commissioner Contact Directory.

For more information regarding the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter, please visit the CDFA GWSS Information Brochure.
