Locations: All
Summary:
Costco has issued an important product information notice for Desert Willow Sweet Bubba 18.9L plants (Item #25215) purchased between June 24 and July 3, 2026. It has come to attention that these plants may be infested with the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter (GWSS), an invasive insect pest that can spread harmful plant diseases such as Pierce’s disease, which can affect grapevines, citrus trees, landscape plants and other crops. This is being issued as a precautionary agricultural matter to support early detection and containment efforts, not as a food or product safety hazard to consumers.
What To Do:
If you purchased this item during the affected dates:
1. Isolate the Plant: Keep the plant in its original pot or container, away from other plants. Do not plant it in the ground if you have not already done so. If possible, place the plant inside two sealed trash bags (one inside the other). Do not return, transport, or relocate the plant, and do not place it in the trash or compost bin.
2. Contact your local County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office right away by visiting the county map locator. An agricultural inspector may visit to examine the plant and nearby host plants. If GWSS is found, inspectors will safely remove and dispose of the plant, and monitoring traps may be placed on or near the property.
Do not return the plant to Costco. Instead, present this notice to your local Costco warehouse to receive a full refund. For more information, visit cdfa.ca.gov/pdcp/gwss-costco-plants.html.
