8. Kirkland Signature Product Overhauls
New guidelines have come out surrounding the labeling requirements for “healthy” food. Costco, along with other stores with store brands, will have to meet new guidelines to have their products qualify as “healthy” for shoppers. These include limits on sodium, sugar, and saturated fats. This change is likely to happen over the next few years as Costco overhauls its Kirkland items to provide the best for its customers.

7. Costco Muffins
A popular item at the Costco bakery, the muffins will be getting a big change in 2025. The Kirkland Signature brand will be sold in eight-packs instead of the two six-packs, where you could mix and match flavors. It has also been found that the new muffins will be a smaller size, making them more expensive when considering the price per ounce.
6. New App Features
Costco’s app may not be as tech-savvy as other wholesalers, but changes are coming in 2025. The warehouse has added several additional features to its app, allowing customers to search their warehouse’s inventory when shopping. Now, members can ensure that what they’re looking for is at the warehouse when they are.

5. Standing Tables in Food Court
Starting towards the end of 2024, Costco customers noticed different seating in some of the food courts, with the regular tables replaced with high tables. The high tables can only be used while standing, and the trend is rolling out to more warehouses across the U.S. Some issues have already been raised, centering around feeding young children, garbage left on tables, and accessibility for all shoppers.

4. Membership Card Scanners
Along with an increased membership price in 2024, Costco is rolling out other new guidelines for the membership in 2025. Membership card scanners will now be at the entrance of clubs, so only members (and those who come with them) will be allowed to enter. Since membership sharing has been on the rise, Costco hopes to decrease this problem, especially since a photo ID will also be required for entry.
3. Stop Selling Books
With the rise of electronic readers and cheaper book prices elsewhere, Costco has decided to shelve some of its book sales. While books will still be stocked during the end-of-the-year holiday rush, Costco is removing most of its books from Costco locations (except for around 100 locations). The decision is mostly a financial one, as the books take up a large amount of space and do not provide enough revenue to keep them there.

2. Coca-Cola in Food Courts
We love it when discontinued Costco food court items come back, and we will have another in 2025. Over ten years ago, Coca-Cola was swapped out with Pepsi. However, it seems as if Coca-Cola and Costco have come to a new partnership. The switch has not been announced yet, but customers are excited for the return of Coke with their hot dogs.

1. New Locations
Of course, one of the changes coming to Costco in 2025 is new locations across the U.S. While not every state has a Costco, it does appear that new locations will be added this year. For its fiscal year (September 2024 to August 2025), the warehouse plans to open 19 new U.S. locations and 10 international stores. Several new locations have already been opened, including ones in California, Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts, etc.
