Hazard:
The recalled pools have compression straps that surround the outside of the pool legs that may create a foothold which could allow a child to gain access to the pool and create a potential drowning hazard. This recall affects above-ground pools that are 48-inches and taller with compression straps on the outside of the vertical support legs of the pool.
Affected models include:
- 48″ and 52″ Metal Frame Pools
- 48″ and 52″ Ultra Frame Pools
- Specific Costco models:
- Item 602193: 16×48 Pool (2013)
- Item 232379: 16×48 Ultra Frame Pool (2009-2013)
- Item 257331: 18×52 Frame PL (2009)
- Item 133752: Intex 18×52 Frame (2008)
Note: Pools manufactured after 2013 with compression straps that run internally between the pool wall and support legs are NOT included in this recall. Additionally, pool models less than 48 inches in height are not included.
Remedy:
Stop using the recalled pools immediately and contact Intex for a free repair kit. The repair kit consists of a rope that will maintain the structural integrity of the pool by attaching to each of the vertical pool legs at the ground level (a function previously served by the compression strap).
Until the repair kit is installed:
- Follow CPSC’s Pool Safely guidelines at www.PoolSafely.gov
- Ensure children cannot access the pool unattendedIf access cannot be prevented, drain the pool
- Remove pool ladders and any objects near the pool (patio furniture, filter covers)
- Ensure required and recommended barriers are closed and locked
